Everglades Challenge 2016 A very special race for auto-built boats lovers
The Everglades challenge is a race without assistance for adventure lovers, but also very dangerous, as well as Florida law define it against the common sense. The leaders of event are Jeff Linton of the US Naval Academy with Jahn Tihansky.
The Race consists of a fleet of small sailing boats and kayaks. A Tour of Florida, from Tampa Bay to Key Largo, for More than 300 miles.
The Route provides 3 stops along the coast. In the middle of open sea and the Gulf of Mexico, then many rivers and deep channels, also mangrove islands. In this race there are no rules prohibiting cutting a corner during the travel or to tow the boat by hand if needed.
A path through the 10,000 islands of the Everglades means having the ability to make countless alternative routes and paths in the open Gulf . A race so wide open and full of a thousand perils , including tidal currents and obstacles .
Unstable winds and possible clogged channels, will test these fearless sailors. In previous editions there have been numerous defections, but the spirit that unites all participants is a nice share of adventure and the event is always full of beautiful smiles and hands full of blisters.
Almost all of these boats are self-built, and very cheap.
